Top Rated Golf GPS Systems

Golfers are really getting hooked on the technology used in golf gps devices that are saving them many strokes. The growing popularity of these devices has caused several manufacturers to compete heavily for their share of the market. When looking for the best gps device for golfing, there are several factors to consider when making a selection. These factors include the accuracy of tracking, the price, the quality of the devices golf specific features, and the user interface.

The first device turns out to be a best seller which is the Skycaddie SG5. It is famous for its patented “IntelliGreen” technology which allows golfers to obtain accurate measures regarding the shape and depth of the green regardless of the angle or whether or not it is on the fairway. It correctly displays a nice aerial view of the green showing key details such as the distance between the golf ball and pin. Taking advantage of the annual membership allows multiple courses to be downloaded.

Another top seller is the Callaway uPro GPS, with a price tag similar to the Skycaddie of $400. The AnyPoint technology used in this device offers the ability to calculate layups and accurately determine the yardage to the hole.

Garmin has joined the competition by incorporating their knowledge of making quality GPS devices for travelers and vehicles. They have produced one of the best golf gps devices, the Garmin Approach G4 Golf GPS. It features an impressive full color, waterproof touch screen that allows users to accomplish a great deal like easily moving the placement of the pin to the hole to get precise measurements. This device is priced higher than most of the competing gps golf devices at $500, but eliminates many hassles because more than 9,000 courses are preloaded.

Another device, the Golf Buddy Pro GPS offers maps for nearly every golf course in North America preloaded into the unit. The price tag is more attractive than other devices at $350. Its most famous feature is the capability to change the view of the green to reflect the angle of the approach.

Another of the top golf gps devices is the Sonocaddie V300 Color GPS. It features impressive 3-D graphics that give golfers a great view of the course including every angle of the green and any hazards that are present. It can also be used as a golf companion to track scores as well as recording the distance after each shot.

Having the right technology can greatly affect the overall flow of the game. Devices like golfing GPS devices are very helpful in planning ahead, but the device must be accurate and the yardage readings should be correct to make any proper conclusions. If the device is easy for golfers to use, other golfers should use it as well.

The Best Golf Deals Online

Golfing is a sport that has always been associated with rich white people. Even though a lot of middle class and non-white people play golf and it is growing in popularity around the world, there is still an association with country clubs and elitism in general. Of course, this association is actually quite reasonable, because even today, there are golf clubs with extremely high membership fees, which exclude some racial minorities, those who play the most are likely to have a high income, and, let us face it, and golf is an expensive sport to play. The equipment is expensive and the fees are expensive even at most public golf courses. However, it is possible to save a considerable amount of money if you know how to find bargains. In addition, as with most things these days, the best way to find bargains is by turning on your computer, going on to the Internet, and finding the right websites. This article discusses how you can find the best golf deals online.

For equipment such as golf clubs, you should consider buying used items from a site such as eBay. You need to be careful, though. Check that the seller has 100% positive feedback or close to it, from at least a hundred buyers. Read what those who have left feedback actually have to say about the seller. Make sure also to carefully read the description of the condition of the items you are buying, and be sure that the photos are of the actual items for sale rather than stock photos.

It is important to check shipping costs as well; often a seller will offer what appears to be a good price but then charges an unreasonable amount for the shipping. Check the return policy as well; many sellers will not accept returns for any reason. Finally, you need to know exactly what types and brands of clubs and balls work for your golf game, since you are not going to be able to try them out before purchasing. To try out golf clubs, consider renting; then you can try out a bunch of different clubs without spending a fortune.

For purchasing new equipment online, do a search using a term like “golf deals” and then compare prices among at least ten sites. With these, you also need to check on shipping costs and return policies. Some good sites to start with are greatgolfdeals.com, golfnow.com, rockbottomgolf.com, golfsmith.com, and worldwidegolfshops.com. You should trust the “natural” results more than the sponsored ones. For a long time Google was easily the best search engine to choose, but now the new Microsoft search engine Bing may actually better when making purchasing decisions.

For tee time deals online, in which you save money on fees for playing by booking tee times from a website, some good sites include teetimewatch.com, click4teetimes.com, and lastminutegreen.com. Try a search term like “tee times deals”, and again, be patient and make sure you compare among multiple websites. The best golf deals online always go to those who take the time to do some research.

A Guide To Golf Holidays In Portugal

Portugal is widely regarded as the hidden gem of European golf. Many holiday golfers are distracted away to Spain’s rich tradition in golfing and its championship courses while others visit the British Isles for the original Links golf experience.

However, Portugal has grown in popularity over recent decades due to its ample choice of courses, year round good weather and range of accommodation.

The main golfing holiday regions are centered on the Lisbon region in the south west, the Algarve region in the south, the island of Madeira and the Oeste region.

The Portuguese capital Lisbon and the Estoril coast provide a good mix of golf courses combined with the range of accommodation, dining and entertainment on offer in the capital. The IAGTO voted the region (in 2007) as the best European golfing destination. Highlights include the mature Aroeira golf club, the Penha Longa championship course, the tough links at Troia and the region’s most famous course – the windswept Praia d’El Rey.

For some, the Algarve region is the real home of Portuguese golf given its warm climate (making it an ideal year-round location) and the standard of resorts, villas, restaurants and golf clubs. Western Algarve has the added challenge of Atlantic breezes to contend with so clubs like the scenic Boavista, the Penina Championship Course and the two Oceanico courses (designed by Nick Faldo & Christy O’Connor) provide real golfing challenges.

Vilamoura, in the central Algarve, hosts an abundance of golf resorts and world class courses including the Quinta do Lago Laranjal and several clubs in the Oceanico resort. The eastern Algarve climate is a little cooler and green fees become a little pricier the more east you travel. Highlights of the area are the Seve Balasteros designed Quinta do Vale golf course and the Jack Nicklaus designed Monte Rei.

The island of Madeira is something different in terms of golf holidays Portugal has on offer. Its location, 500 kilometers west of the Portuguese coast in the Atlantic Ocean, is something that could put some golfers off.

The Santo da Serra is a 27-hole course that can be played in 3 combinations which does offer some variation in the courses played. For most golfers though, it is the wonderful scenery that is a backdrop to the golf clubs that offers a unique golfing experience. Steep mountains cliffs surround the island and its isolation makes for a unique laid back atmosphere.

The one region that is lagging behind the others is the Oeste region which doesn’t have the championship clubs and plush resorts found elsewhere. But if you are seeking some tranquility then the pleasant golf clubs, scenic drives and charming villages could make for a relaxing golfing break.

The majority of Portuguese golf clubs have green fees ranging from 50 Euro in winter to 85 Euro in the high season. Championship courses and more mature clubs (mostly in the Algarve) are generally over the 120 Euro mark.

All courses can be booked online and its generally good practice to make advance bookings in the summer season. Remember to bring your PGA handicap proof as some championship courses have a maximum-handicap rule for all visitors (confirm via their websites).

Looking for European golfing breaks? For the perfect golf holiday Algarve, Estoril and the other Portuguese regions have it all. Visit the Golf Holidays Portugal Guide to learn more.

Learning How to Improve Golf Swing

A lot of people fear that they are not going to be a good golfer because there are so many different aspects and details to the game. Yes this is true, but everyone needs to get started somewhere and even the professional golfers like Tiger Woods were beginners once and had to learn how to play the game. The first thing that you need to get figured out if you want to get started with golfing is learning how to swing a golf club. Even the pros had to start somewhere.

One golf swing secret that even the professionals rely on is to make sure that you know where you are getting the power from for your shot. It has to do with weight distribution. If you are not balancing your weight properly throughout your body then you are not going to have the best game. It is important that you are properly balanced back and forth and also side to side.

The Best Way To Save Your Back Swing Correctly

Then for your posture you want to make sure that you are standing gripping your club with feet shoulder width apart and knees bent slightly, because this way you are going to get the most power in your shot. For the backswing when you are learning how to swing a golf club, you should always move your golf club back up and away from the ball, almost behind your back. The backswing can be one of the trickiest parts of the shot to master. You are not going to be an expert right from the get go and you need to remember that but with some practice you may turn out to be a great golfer.

When heading into the downswing, if you want to know how to swing a golf club then you need to remember that concentration and control are the two most important factors during this part of your golf swing. You will see how these seasoned pros grip their clubs and what their stance is like on the downswing. Staying balanced is extremely important here otherwise your aim is going to be off and the ball is going to end up somewhere other than where you were planning on. After all, what is better than learning from the pros?

Turn Your Amateurish Golf Swing Into a Top Class Pro Act

1. You should get more distance by passing the pole.

You should make use of a proper weight shift if you desire maximum consistency and distance. There is a pole planted into the ground and the ball is resting on it at its address. Now you need to place your left shoulder just behind the ball without even a slight sway of the hips.

When you are in a position like this, it is considered as ideal for initiating the downswing. When you do the follow through, the right shoulder of yours has to shift past the imaginary pole and the golf ball. If you are able to do all these properly, you can perform weight shifts and good turns equally well.

2. You must remember the practice area

Do you know the importance of the practice area? Any expert golfer who wishes to win the tournament will check out the practice area before moving on to the first tee. Surely, I don’t need to repeat that you too should do the same if you have an iota of seriousness in you. Now don’t start worrying how you strike the ball in the practice area.

Rather use the practice area to loosen your muscles and for warming up your body. Then when you become ready to hit, you have to start off with a wedge. Then slowly you have to work your way down till you reach the driver. Again, when you finish off, you have to use a few wedges again.

You may also feel all these are unnecessary but do you know, these promote a good feel and tempo, they can prevent you from getting injured and you can strike the ball with perfection as well.

When you start to widen your stance further and further as many other amateur golfers do, it increases stability on the one hand and on the other hand generates a lateral movement which can result in an involuntary swing. You can acquire an improved swing stance by doing the barrel drill.

You should start off with an approximate stance that must be shoulder width apart. Then you have to swing the club in such a manner that if there were two poles planted on each side of you just beside your shoes, you would never touch the poles. For this you need to do a full turn. Then you have to envisage yourself swinging in a barrel and this will ensure low scores.
