Golf training has changed a lot over the last few years. If you look back to the golfers of the 60′s and 70′s, they weren’t spending plenty of time inside the gym.
They most likely saw more of the clubhouse bar than they saw of the gym within the clubhouse. As a matter of fact, up until the preceding decade or so, training for golf did not exist at all.
For the most part, a lot of golfers over the past century practiced particular shots – sand shots, shots inside the rough, chips, etc. – and hit buckets of balls, but they did not do any particular training for golf. All they did was PLAY golf.
If you take a look at the best golfers these days, however, you will witness that their bodies look much different than their predecessors. They are much more muscular inside the shoulders and across the chest, they have much smaller waists, and their thighs are stronger.
Their forearms, biceps, and even their triceps are all well-developed to continue a fast swing speed. Golfers such as Tiger Woods, who spends hours inside the gym every week, have witnessed the payback of working out.
Tiger is famous for running for miles on a treadmill and lifting weights – so much so that you can observe it in the way his body has altered over the years. He has remained strong and on top of his game for almost a decade.
Of course, you do not have to look like a pro golfer. However, just about all of us can increase our level of fitness and in turn will realize a major improvement in our play.
Golf is much more than just a long drive and a good putt – it is all those hundreds of swings in between that can also be improved upon. By making a body that will stand up to hours of play, a lot of swings, and miles of walking, you have to work out.

Among all of the National Football League’s (NFL) current franchises in Florida, none have been in existence longer than the Miami Dolphins, First formed in 1966 as part of the American Football League (AFL), the Dolphins were part of that league’s desire to form new teams in areas of the nation with limited access to professional football programs. After the two leagues were made one in the 1970 merger, the Dolphins began play in the AFC. They would find success in one form or another throughout their NFL existence, but never the kind of success they enjoyed during the team’s hallowed first decade of play with that legend of the coaching world, Don Shula. In fact, the team’s greatest year ever was the one that saw them run the table during the regular season, and then cap a flawless campaign with two victories in the playoffs and the 1973 Super Bowl trophy.
Improbable perfection
The Dolphins of 1972 spent almost the entire season without the services of their starting quarterback Bob Griese, who had suffered both a leg break and an ankle dislocation in a game against the Charges in Week 5 of the regular season. Fortunately, the Dolphins had an able backup to Griese in the form of Earl Morrell – a veteran field general who enjoyed resurgence during the ’72 season. With Morrell under center, the Dolphins won all 14 of their games in the regular season. Griese, meanwhile, sent the season recovering from his injuries. By the time of the AFC title game, Griese was able to see limited play as a substitute for Morrell. By the time Super Bowl VII rolled around, he was back on the field as a starter.
Real perfection in the making
That season’s Super Bowl took place on January 14th of 1973, and was played in Los Angeles, California. The game against the Washington Redskins would ultimately turn out to be the lowest Super Bowl score in history, as the final outcome of fourteen to seven resulted in a Super Bowl low twenty-one total points. As evidenced by the score, the defense commanded the day – particularly the Dolphins so-called “No Name Defense”. Referred to as “No Name” due to their lack of identifiable star power the Dolphins defense nevertheless put on an impressive show in Super Bowl VII as they refused time and again to allow the Washington Redskins’ offensive unit to play on the Dolphins’ side of the field. Those who watched the game know that the Dolphins were even more dominant than the final score suggests – Washington did not score at all until there were only two minutes left in the game.
History made
The Dolphins’ legacy from the 1972 season and Super Bowl has been talked about often in the years since. The Miami team of 1972 is still the only team in professional NFL history to win every regular season game and not lose their Super Bowl contest. It is still history’s only absolutely complete perfect season of NFL play. In addition, that year’s Miami defense set the standard for other defenses to come, and proved the oft-cited adage that “defenses win championships”.
Miami fans were not surprised, of course, that it would come down to the defense to secure the title win and the team’s legacy as the only perfect team ever to play in the NFL.

Trojan football has been a part of the NCAA since 1888, with the University of Southern California team having consistently been one of the teams to beat. With 11 national titles to the program’s credit, the Trojans have spent much of their history dominating the Pacific 10 Conference in which they compete, while also routinely threatening the national championship picture. Over the last decade, USC has spent much of their time ranked within the very top tier of the vote tabulations that have counted: the Associated Press (AP) and Bowl Championship Series (BCS) polls. Over the course of that decade, the Trojans were led by Coach Pete Carroll, who made a name for both himself and his team with a fast-paced style of offense and hard-nosed defense.
Not the first choice
Oddly enough – given Carroll’s eventual success with the team, there were few people cheering his selection when he was first hired. Much of the disapproval stemmed from the fact that he had spent the better part of the last decade coaching in the NFL, and there were detractors who felt that the adjustment to the college game would prove too much for the man. In fact, the USC coaching selection process involved several unsuccessful attempts to recruit three other coaches first – from Oregon State, Oregon, and the San Diego Chargers. For various reasons, none of the three initial choices accepted the job, leaving Carroll as the best available option. Carroll helped his cause by pursuing the post with vigor, in part due to the fact that his daughter was already attending the University. What makes the selection process even more inexplicable is the fact that the University had, just three short years before, tried unsuccessfully to lure Carroll away from the New England Patriots.
An uneasy transition
Carroll’s USC Trojans team took to the field for the 2001 campaign – and immediately fell on their faces. With only two of seven victories to their credit as the season began, the agonizing over Carroll’s selection grew even more intense. Some in the press even went so far as to refer to his selection as the worst choice in the history of college football. The consensus was that Pete Carroll would prove to be the death of USC football supremacy and the dawn of an extended period of mediocrity. E was, in the minds of many, the bringer of the dark ages.
Instead, Carroll’s system began to see the results he knew it would, and the USC Trojans roared back to life. In the process, they amassed a record of 67 victories with only 7 defeats, while winning a pair of national titles and once again cementing USC’s position as a dominant football program. His teams also managed to win every Pac-10 conference championship title between 2003 and 2008.
By then, everyone had forgotten about the early days of his tenure with the team, and even the media began to refer to him as perhaps being the best coaching selection ever made by any team.

Tattoos have never been more popular, however despite how many people have tattoos Allen Iversons tattoos are getting the young star a lot of unnecessary attention. A lot of people state that the young basketball star has gone too far with all the ink that he has over his body, but who are we to judge?
The fact of the matter is Allen Iverson tattoos are on his body, obviously if he didn’t want as many as he has he would have never had them done in the first place. Before you sit back and try to past judgment on the talented star you need to be able to understand a little bit more about the man and look past his tattoos.
Expression is something that we all have. The first amendment gives everyone the right to express themselves as they deem fit. It’s horrible that tattoos are the way that Allen expresses himself and he gets so much grief over it.
At the start of his career, Allen only had one single tattoo. People did not seem to make a big deal out of it from the start. The tattoo was of a bull dog and it could be found on the stars shoulder. People were used to see stars with one or two tattoos so no one really said anything about the stars body ink until now.
Allen has been put down for having so many tattoos. Many people have deemed him as begin rebellious or put his name under the bad boy title. However, how can you cast judgment on someone simply for expressing themselves in their own way? People draw inspiration off of different things and for Allen that inspiration comes from his tattoos.
However, just because Allen has chosen to adorn his body with tattoos does not make him a bad person. In fact every tattoo that is depicted on the stars body has a special meaning to him. Whenever hes playing his heart out at a game or simply lounging around, he looks at his tattoos and draws all the inspiration that he needs in order to push himself forward from them.

During Pete Rozelle’s time as the Commissioner of the National Football League, he had few ambitions higher than that of achieving parity in the League he so loved. Rules were shaped and reshaped in his 29-year tenure in an attempt to ensure that every team in the NFL would have the opportunity to compete for a title, and to prevent the type of dynasties that had previously held sway over professional football – the dynasties once enjoyed by the Packers, Cowboys, Steelers, and 49ers of the football world. The desire for parity played a role in every key NFL decision – from revenue-sharing to free agency to the order of the draft – and few could argue with the results. In fact, only one team has managed to create anything close to a dynasty over the last ten years of the League’s history: the New England Patriots.
From 2000 until today
A glance at any list of Super Bowl Winners over the last ten years reveals that the Patriots are really the only team to escape the gravitational pull of parity and soar into the stratosphere. Under Bill Belichick’s leadership, the Patriots have appeared in four of the last ten Super Bowls and won three of those contests. Their appearances in the title game are double that of their nearest competitors, the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers, making the Patriots the only true dynasty of the age of parity. Under Belichick, the Patriots have won their division six of ten times, won their conference four times, and managed a winning record of one-hundred and sixteen wins to only forty-five losses. That remarkable streak of success also includes an undefeated regular season campaign in 2007.
System success
Some have attributed Belichick’s winning ways to what they say is an underrated quarterback in Tom Brady. Others simply believe they have benefited from an imagined decline in the across the board level of talent in the NFL. Most scoff at both notions. While Brady has been an effective field general for the team, there is no arguing with the fact that it is Belichick’s overall coaching and management system that has allowed the Patriots to prosper in the age of parity.
The system works
Ten years of watching the Patriots win are certainly enough for any objective observer to understand how they do it. The truth is that, like Vince Lombardi with Green Bay in the 1960s, Belichick has created a team goal that involves only one thing: winning. No matter who takes the field, self-interest must be set aside for the collective betterment of the team as a whole. Offensive and defensive players all know what is expected of them, and they know that outburst driven by ego will get them benched and even traded in the Belichick system. Anything that disrupts the team’s cohesiveness is ruthlessly eliminated. As a result, the Patriots have filled their roster with players who act like a team, and win as one. The team is satisfied with nothing short of winning the division, conference, and title games.
He has instilled this mindset within the halls of management and within the locker room, and has enabled the Patriots to rise above the mediocrity of middle-ground NFL parity and find a place among the few elite teams in the modern National Football League.

Kansas City fans have cheered on their Chiefs for nearly half a century now. The team had its origins in Dallas where it was first called the Texans, but that three year tenure ended when it moved to its present location in 1963. Although they were one of the original teams in the old AFL, they are now a proud member of the American Football Conference in the NFL, and are located in the Leagues AFC West. Fans of the Chiefs know that their team has seen its share of superstar players since it first arrived in the city. They also know that Lenny Dawson will always be remembered as one of the absolute greatest of all.
Len’s college days
Len Dawson played quarterback for the Purdue Boilermakers before going on to the professional level. When he was being recruited he had his choice of schools to attend, and both were attractive options. He ultimately settled on Purdue University rather than Ohio State because he had misgivings about being a part of the Buckeyes’ split-T system of offense. As it turned out, the Boilermakers were the perfect fit for Dawson. He went on to compile a three-year career of more than three thousand passing yards, and was the Conference’s top passer in each of his seasons in the Big Ten.
Finding a home in the Pros
Dawson’s entry into the NFL was much-heralded. Despite that fact, his experience with the Steelers was less than satisfactory, and even after being traded to Cleveland he found himself unable to acquire the starting job at quarterback. In truth, he had very stiff competition at both locations. In 1962, he signed with the then-Dallas Texans and began to find his stride. His first season with the team resulted in him being the touchdown and yard per attempt leader, as well as the MVP of the AFL. When the team moved in 1963 to Kansas City, Dawson went with them.
Chief of Chiefs
As a Chief, Len got his old accuracy back. This was important, because the Chiefs were using that same mobile pocket system that he had experienced in college. He soon became the AFL’s perennial passing leader, with his 1966 season being so successful that his team was invited to participate in the AFL-NFL matchup that s now known as Super Bowl I. Against the then-dynasty of Lombardi, Starr, and the rest of the Packers, there was little that the upstart Chiefs could do to stop the Packers from winning the game going away. Nevertheless, Dawson was still in competent form during a losing effort, as he compiled more than 200 yards passing and one touchdown.
Back to the Bowl
Three years later, Dawson once again took his team all the way to the AFL title and into Super Bowl IV. This time, there was no Bart Starr or Green Bay Packers to stop him and he instead led the Chiefs to a victory over the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings. It would be the Chiefs’ one and only Super Bowl trophy. Dawson retired from the game in 1975, and was formally inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1987. To Chiefs fans everywhere, he will always be remembered as one of the first men to show the world that the AFL could compete on the same stage with the NFL and win.

When most fans of football think of the Minnesota Vikings, they often think of the recent teams that have always fielded potent offenses and competent defenses, but which have never seemed to be able to live up to their potential. The Vikings, however, have consistently been among the best in the NFL – as evidenced by their overall franchise winning percentage which is the fifth-best in the NFL. Perhaps the best years of the Vikings franchise began within eight years of the team’s 1961 entry into the NFL. During that period, which began in 1969, the Vikings would consistently dominate the NFL, appearing in four Super Bowls within an eight year period. Though they lost all of those games – and have, in fact, never won a Super Bowl title, the period between 1969 and 1977 can rightfully be thought of as the Age of the Vikings.
The beginnings of an era
It all began in the 1969 season. The Vikings managed to compile twelve straight wins during the campaign, and finished with a 12-2 record that propelled them into the postseason. After defeating the Browns of Cleveland to become the NFL titlist of 1970 – the final NFL title ever awarded, given that the AFL-NFL merger took place at the end of that season, the Vikings represented the League in its contest against the AFL title-winning Chiefs of Kansas City. The Chiefs won that Super Bowl, but the Vikings had clearly set the stage for the most prolific years of their franchise.
The 1970s
Minnesota would return to the playoffs in both of the next two seasons, powered in large part by their mighty defense – known as the Purple People Eaters. The 1972 campaign was disappointing due to the fact that the Vikings split their wins and losses at seven apiece. This was in no small part the result of turbulence in the roster as the Vikings reacquired the great Fran Tarkenton from the Giants. That trade paid dividends in 1973, however, as the team was once again rolling through the NFL after a nine-win start, ended with another 12-2 finish, and went on to play against the Dolphins in Super Bowl VIII – which they once again lost.
The elusive Super Bowl win
Losing the Super Bowl seemed to be the Vikings’ destiny, as they returned in the following year, only to fall before the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl IX. After an easy divisional win in 1975, the Vikings surprised the football world by being defeated by Dallas in the playoffs. That was the game in which Staubach threw the now infamous Hail Mary pass that ended the Vikings’ season. Though they did not appear in Super Bowl X, the Vikings returned for Super Bowl XI. This time, they would face the Oakland Raiders – against whom they would once again fall short.
After three shots at the title in four years – and four shots in a period of eight years – some might think that those losses would define the team as perennial losers. In fact, though, the appearances themselves – and the regular season performances that warranted them- stand as evidence that the Vikings teams of the time were indeed dominant in the League, in spite of the fact that they never won the crown jewel of professional football.
