Ever have the feeling like your golf shot is lost before you ever make your backswing? Or have you taken swings that felt great only to have that feeling of the golf club thudding into the turf? For most beginning and high handicap golfers, the biggest threat to their golf swing is their posture.

These issues don’t just come in the form of bad golf shots, but also in the form of physical problems. For instance, Roman Pardigm Therapy states that more than a third of golf injuries are lower back problems and stemming from poor posture. Specifically, most beginning golfers hunch over too much at the waist putting an enormous amount of torque and strain on the lower back. Tiger Woods’ ex-teacher Hank Haney in many of his books talks about the ideal degree angle bend is somewhere between 20 to 23 degrees.

Basing what I see at my facility, most beginners 39 degree angle into the ball. Why does this matter in your golf swing? Primarily it will cause the swing to become far too steep which means the shaft of the club will never slot itself in the proper plane. To give you an example, a 7-iron swing becomes something like a lob wedge and a driver looks like an 9-iron. When the swing plane becomes too steep we tend to hit behind the ball and virtually lose all our power. Additionally, steep swings will also prohibit our arms from rotating over and closing the club face back up. This will cause our slices that we all fear as we approach our golf shots.

What’s the best way to fix a bad posture and set up?

First anchor your club behind the ball to set up your stance

Second set those feet up according to the type of shot you want to hit

Third is to check your alignment and make sure the knees, hips, shoulders and eye line are all going the same direction, try using a club to make sure they are all lined up

Fourth is to imagine standing against a wall and bending at the waist to about 20 to 27 degrees or to the one on a clock

When you set up correctly with the proper posture, the golf swing can now go around your body instead of up and down which causes many of those shots you absolutely hate

Check out this picture from Golf Magazine that brilliantly illustrates what good posture looks like:

The Los Angeles Lakers had the opportunity to finish off the Denver Nuggets at home in Game 5, but the Nuggets held on for a 102-99 win to force a Game 6 in Denver on Thursday. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 10:30 EST and will be broadcasted nationally on TNT. This has all the sudden became a series that could go down to the final game. While the Lakers were able to win 92-88 at Denver in Game 4, the Nuggets easily won game 3 at home 99-84 If the Nuggets are able to come away with another win at the Pepsi Center, the series will head back to L. A. for Game 7 on Saturday.

Having a quick look at the NBA lines for this crucial game, oddsmakers have the Nuggets favored by 1.5-points over the Lakers with the total set at 198 points. For the latest on this series go the Betfirms.

Denver

The Nuggets didn’t just avoid elimination in Game 5, they now have the confidence they can win this series. They have really taken on the never give up attitude of their head coach George Karl. I don’t think anyone was stunned to see the Nuggets win a game at home, but nobody thought this team had much of a chance of making this a series.

While several players helped Denver win Game 5, JaVale McGee and Andre Miller are the reason Denver is still playing. Miller had a team-high 24 points to go with 8 assists, while McGee had 21 points and 14 rebounds. The most inspiring part about their performances, is that both players came off the bench. Combined they shot a ridiculous 17 of 23 from the field. Arron Afflalo led the starters with 19 points and Danilo Gallinari chipped in 14.

It’s no secret to what the Nuggets have to do to force a Game 7. They must continue to push the pace and really make the Lakers work on each side of the ball. While Los Angeles has to depend heavily upon the big three of Bryant, Gasol, and Bynum, Denver has a considerable number of players who can fill up the stat sheet. The sole concern I have with this team, is the lack of a go to guy late in the game.

Los Angeles

With the Oklahoma City Thunder waiting and resting for the winner of this series, I was expecting a better effort from the Lakers in Game 5. Seldom will you see a team led by Kobe Bryant fail to put away their opponents on their home floor. That is not to say Bryant didn’t do his best to carry the Lakers to a win on Tuesday. Bryant finished with a game-high 41 points and single handedly brought the Lakers within striking distance in the final minutes with a barrage of 3-point shots.

While Bryant seemed to understand the significance of Game 5, the same can’t be said for the rest of the team. Andrew Bynum was the only other player in double-figures with 16 points, but he was a non-factor on both sides of the ball for most of the game. Bynum finished with just eight field goal attempts, which is completely unacceptable given the Lakers size-advantage in the paint. Pau Gasol was even worse, scoring just 9 points on 4 of 11 shooting.

I question whether the the tempo at which the Nuggets are playing is taking its tole on the Lakers 7-footers. With the series shifting back to the thin air of Denver, you have to ponder whether either of these players have enough stamina to play at the level needed for Los Angeles to win this game.

Visit any golf course or driving range and the one thing you’ll see with most amateurs is they do the same every time they practice. That thing is they never make their practice time meaning full. Here’s a glimpse of what I mean:

I’ll give you a great example, one of our regulars comes about four to five times a week to practice. Here’s the rundown:

1. gets golf balls

2. makes same swing with random clubs

3. tries to hit everything the same way, high and straight

4. no practice on shot shaping, trajectories or even hitting some fun shots.

Check out what Tiger does:

6:30 a.m. – Cardio

7:30 a.m. – One hour of lower weight training. 60-70 percent of normal lifting weight, high reps and multiple sets.

8:30 a.m. – Protein breakfast.

9:00 a.m. – Course Time.

11:00 a.m. – putting for 30 minutes to an hour.

Noon – Play

1:30 p.m. – High protein lunch.

2:00 p.m. – Works on specifics on course then on range

6:30 p.m. – 30 minutes of upper weight training. High reps.

7:00 p.m. – Dinner and rest.

I know what you’re thinking, dude is a pro golfer with endorsements (not as many as he used to) who can do this all day long, I work 60 hours a week and have just an hour or two for practice! I get it, so here’s what you do. Try the Bubba Watson way:

Bubba Watson Practice

Here’s the run down:

1. get loose

2. hit some short clubs like his wedges, plays different shots

3. work on your irons, if you had a problem try to work on that specific problem first. For instance, if you were hitting the ball fat, try working on your swing plane

4. hit woods – rinse and repeat

5. Specialty shots….try some new types of shots

I completely understand how it’s hard to find a lot of time to practice your game, but you do anyway. Most people work only 40 hours a week if they are lucky but it’s usually upwards of 50-60. If that’s the case, why not make your practice time more fruitful? Instead of pounding ball after ball, why not develop some shots you can feel good about on the course. For instance, work that slice into a fade or even better yet see if you can hook a ball? I don’t care what your handicap is, you can definitely make it happen. Just be different than everyone else!

The Boston Celtics took a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Atlanta Hawks with a 101-79 win on Sunday. The Celtics have bounced back from a 74-83 loss in Game 1 with three straight wins. The series returns to Atlanta on Tuesday for Game 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 EST and will be broadcasted nationally on TNT.

Oddsmakers have Atlanta favored by 1-point over Boston with the total set at 174 points. Get the most up-to-date news on this series at Betfirms.

Boston

Boston didn’t just beat Atlanta in Game 4, they completely dominated that game from the very beginning. Boston had a 23-point advantage at intermissionand were able to cruise the rest of the way. If Boston can carry over the momentum gained from that win, I’ve got a hard time seeing this series returning to Boston for Game 6. Not only do the Celtics look poised to go to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, but you’ve got to like their odds of of returning to the Conference Finals. With the injury to Derrick Rose, the top-seeded Chicago Bulls are one-game away from being knocked out in the first round. If the Bulls go on to lose, it would set up a really favorable matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers in the next round.

It’s hard enough to beat the Celtics with the way in which they play defense, but when they show up on offense like they did in Game 5 it’s pretty much impossible. Boston shot 51.3% from the field and were a sizzling 11 for 26 (42.3%) from long distance. Paul Pierce had a game-high 24 points on 10 of 13 shooting (4-6 from 3-point range) and Rajon Rondo ended the game with 20 points points and 16 assists.

There’s going to be a lot of people who jump on Boston in Game 5. While I can’t blame anyone for desiring to take Boston after the performance they put on in Game 4, I wouldn’t be shocked if they didn’t have some kind of a letdown. As ugly as Atlanta played in Game 4, you have to believe they are going to come out and put everything on the line to keep their season alive.

Atlanta

Plain and simple, the Atlanta Hawks didn’t show up to play in Game 4. It actually looked promising for Atlanta after they were able to win Game 1 at home and the Celtics were going to be without Rondo in Game 2. Three straight losses have completely changed everything. Even if the Hawks are able to win Game 5 at home, I give them little to no chance of winning Game 6 in Boston.

Although it isn’t all that surprising that the Hawks were unable to win a game on the road, I don’t think anybody expected this team to lose by 22-points, particularly with the return of Al Horfod to the lineup. Surprisingly, Horford played very well in his first game back. He had 12 points and five rebounds in just 20 minutes off action. Sadly the remainder of the team didn’t show up. Josh Smith was the only starter in double-figures with 15 points, but he shot a miserable 5 of 13 from the field. Joe Johnson, who the Hawks greatly relies on offensively, had just 9 points. He was a respectable 4 of 8 from the field, but Atlanta isn’t going to beat Boston when he takes just 8 field-goal attempts.

It wasn’t just the offense that didn’t show up. Atlanta put forth minimal effort on the defensive side of the ball. I understand the Celtics were hitting almost everything they attempted, but a lot of that was a consequence of wide open looks. It all begins with the poor defense being played on Rondo. When Rondo is able to do as he pleases, the Celtics offense becomes awfully efficient. Jeff Teague and Kirk Hinrich must put more pressure on Rondo and do whatever they can to get the ball out of his hands.

Knowing tennis can commence at various ages. Many pick it up at a young age of 3 – 4 years old. Many do not have the chance until later on in life. Even so, playing tennis is beneficial for all ages, particularly for young children because of the reasons below:

Playing tennis will aid you in life as it is a form of physical exercise. It makes any difference how you see it, tennis should always provide you with most cardiovascular exercise which helps make it a form of physical exercise. Playing tennis requires running, sprinting at times, extension of the limbs, power and grace. It does not solely require physical agility but mental prowess as well. I thoroughly take pleasure in tennis as it provides me a noteworthy exercise;

Playing tennis stimulates the mind. For most folks, tennis is only a physical sport. Absolutely nothing more. But, if you delve closely, you will know, in fact, tennis calls for more psychological toughness and psychological alertness in contrast to what one may think. Lets consider competitive tennis players, it is easily more than 80% psychological in contrast to physical prowess. Choosing the correct stroke to hit at the correct time is more crucial in contrast to merely whacking the tennis ball hard. This calls for the mind to be nimble and agile to easily discern the correct stroke to make in order to out hit your opponent.

Playing tennis boosts your social standing and individual esteem. We are all human beings. We yearn to be amongst folks. Playing tennis should give you the chance to mingle and interact with folks in a fun and participating manner. It should let you enter a currently recognized sociable group. Not all of us are champion tennis players. Therefore, being able to hit a tennis tennis ball well often undoubtedly offers me a feeling of satisfaction and raises my self-belief a little more. It allows you to make more pals and have that sense that you belong.

Playing tennis boosts your psychological toughness. Playing tennis, unfamiliar to most players, calls for one to seriously concentrate and perform an act in a jiffy. For competition players, tennis helps to increase their individual worth and esteem. One has to be able to lose graciously, pick up and go on in life to another match. Not winning helps to make one more humble. It teaches one how to be beaten and yet be happy about it.

Playing tennis is good for youthful little ones If one has the ability, let your little ones try tennis at a youthful age. It should serve to construct them up bodily and mentally. Playing tennis should open doorways for these little ones i.e. these folks could be able to get scholarships to a variety of universities. It should toughen them up mentally. Of course, the physical facets of tennis training routine should also make one stronger and fitter.

You might discover tennis and be a mentor to others. Preferably, a competitive player, as soon as retired or becoming injured might decide to give mentoring courses and turn out to be a tennis mentor. Mentoring might be rewarding monetarily but a lot more importantly it also can be beneficial psychologically as you see your students grow up to be men of stature in society. For most, tennis might provide you with an added bit of revenue while you are studying in university.

Playing tennis might be a business. Besides becoming a coach, some tennis students have quite a few business facets relating to tennis. One can open up a shop promoting tennis gear and equipment. One can sell tennis rackets, tennis footwear, tennis bags and a lot of things in conjunction with tennis. You may start and run a tennis club with a membership fees. It might be relatively profitable and fun at the same time. Organising tennis tours to a variety of tournaments globally might be an additional venture to consider too.

Finally, if you ask any tennis lovers what he considers of tennis. You will get the answer that tennis is a part of his lifestyle because of all or most of the good reasons above. Therefore, what are you waiting for? Sign up for the first tennis lesson and you will not glance back again!. Happy Playing and Learning!

One of the hardest things about golf is the swing. People usually change their swings to get more distance or to correct problems. Really, though, the golf swing is just a matter of mechanics and putting body motions together in the right way to be consistent. But experienced golfers know this is easier said than done. So what do you need to swing correctly?

You should stand with your feet about a shoulder width apart and pointing slightly out. Let your arms hang naturally down from your body and place the club behind the ball. If your shoulders are tense or hunched, then you are too close to the ball. Move back a little. Seventy percent of your body weight should be on your back leg. Your spine should be straight, and your knees a little bit bent. You should keep your eye on the golf ball the whole time. Grip the club as if you are holding a small, delicate bird. You don’t want to hold too loosely or too tightly either. That’s how you should hold your club. A swing should be executed as a fluid and easy motion, with shoulders turned slightly in the backswing and the follow-through complete. Your feet should remain planted on the ground and you should slow down during the backswing. Most problems with a golf swing are cause by swinging too quickly in the back swing and then not accelerating through the ball. You will want to hit the ball in the “sweet spot” or the centre of the club. If you hit someplace else, you ball will not travel in the direction you were aiming for. Then grip it and rip it!

It might help for you to take a lesson or two on the golf swing or even watch the way the pros do it on television. You can also read articles on that topic on the internet.

You can watch pro golfers on TV to pick up some swinging techniques. You can also read all about it on the internet.

Sometimes this just doesn’t happen, but when it does, it certainly is a great feeling!

This is my review of the excellent book: The Ardennes On Fire. It is a World War Two thriller about the phenomenal military campaign known to history as: The Battle Of The Bulge. It is available through any online retailer from Amazon.com, and Barnes&Noble.com to Xlibris.com

At precisely 5:30AM, on Saturday morning, December 16 1944, the peaceful tranquility of the Ardennes Forest in southern Belgium was violently shattered by the deafening roar of thousands of German guns. All along an 85 mile front, from the ancient city of Monschau in the north, all the way down to the elegant resort town of Echternach in the south, the earth shook and the ground trembled as each and every calibre of shell.

In September of 1972, they shook the very foundations of the so-called supremacy of the NHL by standing tall and proud against the best Canadian players in the world during an incredible eight game series. Two years later, they humiliated many of those same players in, yet, another eight game extravaganza. Then, game the culmination of Soviet hockey greatness. It took place in February of 1979 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The book details Swale’s foaling, birthing, breaking early training, and fine tuning. Then, it takes an in depth look at each and every one of Swale’s fourteen races. As the reader, you will move from the paddock, into the starting gate, across the finish line, and into the Winners’ Circle. In fact, it is so nail biting, you will actually feels as though you are the jockey as Swale storms to resounding victory after resounding victory in some of the sport’s most significant and historic contests.

The reader will understand just how the German Army was able to right itself during the Fall of 1944 after suffering 466,000 casualties during the summer of 1944, and then secretly mass nearly 300,000 men, 970 tanks and armored assault guns, and 1,900 artillery pieces and mortars just opposite a supposedly quiet sector of the Western Front. Read more in History

This leaves the reader with a sense of wonder, and is very thought provoking. Grit And Valor also contains sixteen wonderful photographs for the reader’s enjoyment, along with a full, comprehensive index, as well as Swale’s race record and pedigree. After reading, Grit And Valor: The Story Of Swale, you will love and admire Swale, and you will never forget him.

Individual tennis lessons serves its own purpose of providing a dedicated training session for the student. The attention span is entirely on you, as a student. Of course, you will stand to gain more and learn the tennis techniques faster. However, learning tennis alone can be tiring and a bit boring maybe. Therefore, group tennis lessons can be more fun.

Learning tennis with other people makes it more fun as you have company with you. Other fellow tennis students will be able to encourage you to learn in a fun way. Playing in a group also makes it more fun and less mundane and monotonous as you try to out-do one another.

The best part of the class is the camaraderie that can develop. Beginners have been known to encourage and cheer on the others in the class, making the whole experience a lot of fun. Believe it or not, but learning in a group can make mastering the basics much easier. Those just starting out in tennis have both the rules and the techniques of the game to master. It’s easier in a group as everyone is learning the same thing at the same pace, and again, folks can observe how others do something and learn from watching..

The competitive instinct in all of us is brought out to the fore when we have other people around us. There is that natural desire to out-play each other, to show that you are better than another person. This competitive streak in us, if harnessed correctly, will spur each person to improve faster and focus better.

Private individual lessons will tend to be more strenuous as there is only one student. This may be a deterrent to someone who is not fit. Therefore, group tennis lessons can be more accommodative for someone who is has not exercised for a while.

Adults need a way to easily connect and relate to others on a social level. Taking tennis lessons with a group of adults allows for exercise and a chance to meet new people. The benefits are definitely worth the cost of the lesson.

Private lessons can be costly. For someone such as a young working adult, the game on an individual level could be a bit out of reach. Hence, group tennis lessons will serve to alleviate this monetary situation.

Learning tennis in a group may be seen as safer as one is surrounded by many people. This is in contrast to private lessons which has only the coach and you. Loneliness and perhaps a sense of self consciousness may set in and this may have a negative mental effect on you learning the game.

Group tennis lessons tend to be more regimented with respect to its timing and schedule. Typically, lessons are conducted after working hours in order to facilitate more working adults to join the group tennis lessons.
